Message from our Chair
The Centenary of the AGSV gives us the opportunity to celebrate a wonderful sporting competition which has given generations of students extraordinary experiences and lasting memories. Our Association has been through many transformations in its 100 year history, but has always had as its core value the desire to provide high quality sporting experiences to our students as part of a holistic education. There are many lessons about life which can only be learned on the sporting field: winning with dignity, losing with grace, playing ‘hard but fair’, working with your teammates, respecting the umpire’s decision (even when they are wrong!). These things cannot be learned in classrooms, but they are valuable, nevertheless. The Schools in our association aim to educate well rounded people, people trained in body mind and spirit, in the true tradition of liberal education. We hope also to give them healthy habits and the mindset to maintain healthy lifestyles throughout their lives.
During the course of the year we will celebrate the milestones of the past, and reflect on and pay tribute to the outstanding contributions of generations of staff members and coaches who inspired a love of sport in their students. We also acknowledge and thank the many parents who have patiently brought their daughters and sons to training and matches and have acted as supporters and fans. And we especially remember the hundreds of thousands of students who each week compete for their schools with good humour and passion. Without them our competition could not exist.
We look forward to a wonderful centenary year, and I encourage our current students to play their sport this year in the good spirit displayed by the generations of students who have come before them. We look forward to the next 100 years.
Dr Paul Hicks
Chair, AGSV.

Centenary Program
With COVID-19 interrupting celebrations in 2020, Centenary events have been postponed to 2021.
Centenary Dinner (Date TBC) – Members Dining Room, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jolimont
The Centenary Dinner at the MCG will be a wonderful opportunity for the AGSV community to join together to celebrate the Centenary. More than 400 invitees will be in attendance, exclusively selected by our member schools. Guests will be treated to an evening hosted by Mr David Culbert (Yarra Valley Old Grammarian), including a formal 3 course dinner and a panel of entertaining speakers. This is in addition to a showcase of memorabilia from each school. Invitation only.
Follow the Flag
The AGSV Centenary was launched at the 99th AGSV Athletics Championships on the 11th September 2019 with the unveiling of the Centenary flag. The Centenary flag will travel to the nine AGSV schools throughout 2020 and 2021 allowing each school to creatively celebrate the Centenary with their community. The flag will arrive back at Lakeside Stadium on the 4th September 2021 – to mark the 100th running of the boys AGSV Athletics Championships.
Visit us on Instagram and Twitter to follow the journey of the Centenary flag and keep up to date with all the School celebrations.
